Episode 81 - Making The Case (featuring Jenna Hamilton)
A behind-the-scenes look at what it mean to be a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
When you see the word "lobbyist" - what do you think of?
My mind conjures up images of Frank Underwood from House of Cards, making back room deals in tobacco smoke-filled restaurants. Likewise, I often think of sleazy people advocating for dubious industries like tobacco or big pharma. And while some of that may be true - stereotypes exist for a reason, after all - it is not always the case.
Jenna Hamilton has made a career out of lobbying for the interests of home buyers across America. In her view, her job is to advocate for the rest of us and to make sure that issues surrounding housing affordability are taken seriously. This means addressing everything from loans themselves, to how immigration laws affect construction labor shortages and then drive up costs and purchase prices.
This was an eye-opening episode for me. It reminded me that there are always a multitude of sides to each and every issue and that things are never as simple as what initially meets the eye.
