Episode 41: Survival-mode, Lucky, Hardworking (feat. Jennifer Caraway)

Updated: Sep 4, 2019

Founder of The Joy Bus, Chef, Mom, Chopped Champion and all-around rock star.

One of my favorite things about this project is meeting new people and highlighting the awesome things they are doing.

In my hustle to network and grow this podcast, I found Jennifer Caraway and The Joy Bus on Instagram.

I can’t sum up what they do better than they can, so here is how they describe themselves on their website:

The Joy Bus is a Not for Profit organization whose sole purpose is to relieve the daily struggles of homebound cancer patients with a fresh Chef Inspired meal and a friendly face. Our vision is to elevate the livelihood of our patrons with the joy of culinary sustenance. Founded in 2011 and named in honor of our dear friend Joy who struggled with the painstaking side-effects of cancer, ultimately losing her life to this horrific disease. Joy suffered from cancer in the 4 “L” s (in Joy's words) “Lungs, Liver, Lymphoids and Loveries”. Her drive and determination are inspirational to all those who fight her same battle and if a hot meal and a little compassion can brighten her day then it’s the least we can all do as humans and as a part of a community. Millions of cancer patients are left to fend for themselves during this turning point in their lives. The Joy Bus will relieve the burden put on families during this time by providing healthy meals specified to meet our patron’s needs. The Joy Bus delivers not only quality meals to your doorstep but compassion and a smiling face.

If this doesn’t pull at your heart strings, you probably don’t have a soul.

It’s a sad fact, but nearly everyone today has been touched by cancer in one way or another. Whether you live in Arizona or not, we can all support Jennifer and The Joy Bus here.

If you think The Joy Bus is cool, just wait until you get to know Jennifer!

Listen to the whole episode, but to sum it up, she’s a simply a badass. From her punk rock band days in Oregon, to starting, running and scaling a business while raising two kids as a single mom, to winning Chopped. Yes, that Chopped. From TV. She showed up with one knife and won the whole thing!

Jennifer doesn’t let excuses get in the way. She fights and grinds and is making the world a better place.
